Have you got a level 8 degree and are interested in gaining a qualification to teach or train in your area of expertise? Is lecturing in Higher Education something you may be interested in? Are you a trainer or HR consultant and would like to secure a qualification in training? Would you enjoy the prospect of sharing and exploring your teaching or training experiences (and challenges) with other like minded colleagues? Does the prospect of networking and potentially securing contacts or further work interest you?
If you answered YES to any of the above questions then you might consider applying for a HETAC validated Level 9 Training and Education Programme. Griffith College are now accepting application for the February 2010 intake. The programme runs over six months with interactive and dynamic classes every Tuesday evening (commencing Tuesday 2nd February 2010) for 10 weeks (final session 4th May 2010). Participants will also benefit from regular one to one sessions with assigned tutor and with much remote support through the College VLE , Moodle.
The programme aims to develop the ability of the participants to identify, select and apply dynamic and engaging pedagogy appropriate to the needs of their audience, and to justify their choice in the light of current theoretical and research literature. The programme presents an environment where participants gain a systematic understanding of pedagogical knowledge at the forefront of the teaching and learning field, and insight into the context of higher education as it relates to programme design and delivery. Participants will be expected to develop excellent teaching and training practices, which should be part of a continuous reflective development plan to be continued long after the programme has been completed. It is envisaged that this programme will introduce participants to a ‘change of life’ experience within their professional life that will sustain ongoing reflective practice and development.
The programme target audience will be qualified discipline experts with some training or teaching experience. It is anticipated that existing practitioners will welcome the opportunity to develop their teaching practice, and to work and share practice with colleagues both inside and outside their own discipline area. The participants at entry level to this programme already have a very high degree of expertise in their own specialist field; minimum level 8 qualification. They will have a depth of understanding of the paradigms in their own disciplines and consequently they will bring authoritative levels of academic and professional engagement to the process of teacher development; they will expect to be challenged and to engage at a similar level in the educational field.
The employment potential for all participants is a prolonged lecturing and training career with confidence and experience. The knowledge, skills and competences developed on the programme will allow participants to continue providing a high quality service to learners and trainees and to adapt to and integrate new developments in teaching and learning as they arise. As registered trainers recognised by FAS, graduates of the programme will have further opportunities to develop and deliver customised industry related training, further informing their teaching on related academic programmes.
The programme is delivered on a part-time basis by means of four linked modules: Programme Design; Pedagogical Practice; Assessment Strategy; Reflection and Evaluation. These broadly reflect the different stages involved from course design, through delivery and assessment to reflection. The component modules are sequenced and scheduled to support participants as they address the related stages of their own module delivery to learners. Each module has a distinct theme, and also links and supports the other three modules. The programme team comprises of tutors with strong industry and academic experience and qualifications.
