Founded in 1992, the Clare Language Centre gives students the opportunity to learn English, Spanish, Italian and French in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis.  We offer a varied learning experience in a small school with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We provide a variety of long-term and short term courses for adult students throughout the year. We offer an English and Activities Course for teenagers in July and a Family Programme during August. Students can take Examination Preparation and academic year courses, where we provide excellent tuition and any necessary assistance in applying to colleges and universities in Ireland. We hold adult Summer Courses for people combining learning English with their holidays. Our Business English/ESP Courses with one-to-one tuition start at the beginning of every week throughout the year.

Students are welcome to stay in the school all day, make lunch or have tea and coffee in the kitchen,   use the library and self-access learning material, avail of the audio/video equipment and the internet. Our director takes a personal interest in all of the students and their door is always open to students needing assistance or advice.

 

Our school specialises in teaching languages to adults in small groups. The maximum number of students in any language class is 8. Our teachers are enthusiastic and professional. They help all our learners to achieve the best results possible.

Evening Courses in English as a Foreign Language start three times a year:

• Autumn
• January
• after Easter.

These courses are:

• General English (at all levels)
• Cambridge FCE Examination Preparation 
• Cambridge CAE Examination Preparation
• Cambridge BEC Examination Preparation
• IELTS Examination Preparation

FETAC Language Courses are run on a year round basis from October to May. This year these courses are:-

• English as a Second Language
• French
• Italian 
• Spanish

There are three levels: Level 3 - Elementary; Level 4 - Pre-intermediate; Level 5 - Intermediate.

In January 2010 we will start a 20 week Preparation Course for the June sitting of the Cambridge Proficiency Examination.

Clare Language Centre runs 5 120 hour CELT Teacher Training Courses throughout the year. This is the only CELT course in the Mid-West of Ireland recognised by ACELS (Advisory Council for English Language Schools) who are the body established by the Irish Government Department of Education and Science to assure the quality in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Ireland. This course is ideal for graduates wishing to travel or pursue a career with private language schools, and also for primary and secondary teachers who are planning a career move in the direction of resource teaching.

We also offer a 1 week (40 hour) course - Certificate for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language to Secondary Level Students. This course is open to State Qualified Teachers only.
